Mitzvah Action

Engaging in tikkun olam, the repairing of our world, is a shared value that unites us as Jews. The mission of the Mitzvah Action Committee of Temple Har Shalom is to create a culture of social consciousness that inspires volunteers to take action and perform mitzvot.

Performing mitzvot will MAKE A DIFFERENCE in our Synagogue, our community, and for those in need. From the youngest children to most mature adults, these acts of kindness instill and reinforce the importance of charitable giving, showing compassion, and pursuing peace. No one is ever too young or too old to be a mitzvah maker. Please consider joining the Mitzvah Action Committee or volunteering your time.

THS has and continue to support multiple social action projects.  We have a long standing relationship with El Central Hispanoamericano, a non-profit organization that supports the Spanish speaking community of Plainfield, and we look to aid them in collections around Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We have our own It’s A Mitzvah Food Pantry, for which we have ongoing and targeted collections of non-perishable food items to donate to the Community FoodBank of NJ.  This is also how we conduct our annual HHD Food Drive: https://www.templeharshalom.org/food-drive/.  Our Knead to Feed challah bakery program was started back in 2015 and uses challah bakes to donate 100% of proceed toward feeding the hungry: https://www.templeharshalom.org/get-involved/knead-to-feed/.  We also participate annually in Breakfast Run by Midnight Run, another non-profit that allows our teens the chance to head into NYC and deliver food, clothing, blankets, personal care items and more direct to the homeless.
