JSchool Hebrew Curriculum

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL HEBREW CURRICULUM
2024-2025/5785

Hebrew is the language of the Jewish people. No matter where we are in the world once we walk into a synagogue, there is an instant feeling of comfort hearing the melody of the liturgy we teach in JSchool. Teaching Hebrew prayer and prayer concepts is important for nurturing a deep and meaningful connection to Jewish identity and spirituality. We do not only teach how to read and chant Hebrew prayer but the thematic meaning of each prayer. We teach key Hebrew words and phrases such as “Baruch Atah” (Blessed are You), “Shema” (Hear), and “Kaddish” (Sanctification), to help our learners gain insight into the foundational prayers of Judaism and their significance in daily life and communal worship.

In addition, our Hebrew curriculum includes teaching Jewish holidays, values and mitzvot through song with our song leader and Cantor.

All students participate in weekly T’fillah led by our song leader and clergy and have the opportunity to weekly T’fillah and Shabbat Services throughout the year. Here are the prayers taught at each grade level.
